Why Join

Last Updated: 20Aug11 | Status: To Be Continued

Joining creates a membership that grants permissions not available to Guests. The default membership grants "Member Permissions" and is designated by the grey member icon as in MemberMember. Especially trusted members may be granted additional permissions such as ModeratorModerator, TechnicianTechnician, or AdministratorAdministrator.

The permissions granted to MemberMembers, ModeratorModerators, TechnicianTechnicians, and AdministratorAdministrators not available to Guests include:

  1. Creating a unique online identity, known as a handle, that no one else can use. For example, my handle is AdministratorSteve and no one else can post as AdministratorSteve.
  2. Associating an avatar (a graphics file) and/or signature (a text phrase) with your posts.
  3. Editing your posts.
  4. Posting when spam become a problem and posting permissions are changed from Everyone (i.e., Guests and Members) to Members only.
  5. Maintaining a profile that logged in members can view. For example, logged in members can view my profile by clicking the red member icon in AdministratorSteve.
Note:  Your profile is always hidden from Guests. The BBS Member Control Panel (accessible after logging in) includes an option (under FUSEBOX | Member Panel | Update Your Profile) to additionally hide your profile from all logged in members except AdministratorAdministrators.
