Why Create Membership?
- Membership allows one to create a unique identity, known as a handle, that no one else can use. For example, my handle is
Steve. Since no one else can post as
Steve, it is known that my posts are not from some impostor. To post using your handle, login with your username and password.
- Membership provides one with basic permissions known as Member Writable, which is designated by the grey dot as in,
YourUsername. Member Writable permissions allows one to edit one's own posts. To edit your posts, login with your username and password, click Get Framed, expand Bulletin Boards, and click Edit Threads.
Note: Especially trusted members may be granted elevated permissions such as

Moderator Writable,

Technician Writable, or

Administrator Writable.
- Membership allows one to associate a profile, containing personal information, with their handle, viewable only by logged in members. For example, clicking the "
" in
Steve reveals my profile to logged in members. If not a logged in member, profile not viewable. To associate a profile with your handle, login with your username and password, click Get Framed, expand Member Panel, and click Update Profile.
- Membership allows one to associate a graphics file, known as an avatar, with their handle. Typical avatars include an image of oneself or some graphics file that one would like associated with their handle. To associate an avatar with your handle, login with your username and password, click Get Framed, expand Member Panel, click Update Profile, and fill in the Avatar field.
Important Note: Hotlinking (i.e., linking to a graphics file without the permission of the owner of the graphics file) is not allowed and will result in membership cancellation.
- Memberships allows one to post if the board's permissions are set to restricted. There are three levels of board posting permissions: 1.) Unrestricted = members and guests (i.e., non-members) can post, 2.) Restricted = members can post but guests cannot post, and 3.) Scripts disabled = members and guests cannot post. Unrestricted is the ideal. However, if spamming becomes an issue, the board's permissions might be set to restricted. Members can post if the board's permissions are set to restricted.
